The Whittier Pacers announce Maria Delgadillo, our half marathon coach, will be leaving us as coach at the conclusion of our Mountains 2 Beach training session on Saturday, May 29th. We are so sad to see her go, but we know she will touch more lives and create more great memories for so many others.
2020 allowed Coach Maria and her husband, Frank, to run in their neighborhood and explore the different trails and routes around them. She has been given the opportunity to expand the Pacer Nation by establishing an Azusa chapter that will start with walkers and a half marathon group. We are super excited about this opportunity for her and the new community this group will serve. The Pacer Nation is on the go!
Maria started running with the Pasadena Pacers, where she trained for and completed her first LA Marathon in March 2018. We were then so blessed to have her join us as the half marathon coach at the Whittier Pacers, where she has been a staple to the success of our club’s first 3 years. Coach Maria has been such a positive energy, great encourager, and motivator to all runners. She truly does believe in each one of us and will take a selfie with you to commemorate your connection. She will forever hold a special place in the history of the Whittier Pacers as she played a role in helping get this chapter started from day 1.
Coach Maria has shared her enthusiastic and supportive energy with so many runners and has led by example when injury impacted her directly. She will be the first to tell you it’s ok to give your body the time it needs to heal so that you can come back stronger. She has overcome injury with this belief several times and has done so with her same love and encouragement for all, with her never-ending smile.
Maria is and will continue to be, a Whittier Pacer at heart. Thank you so much, Coach Maria. We wish you so much love and success.
A new coach will be announced for the Whittier Pacers soon. In the meantime, please join us in sharing the Pacer Love that Coach Maria and Frank deserve.
